Synthetic hair contributes to wigs, hairpieces, and extensions at a low cost. However, caring for your new hairpiece or extension is a little different than caring for human hair, especially when it comes to detangling and styling. Without proper care, that lovely style will be a tangled mess. There are a few techniques to keep that hair wearable for a long time. Show Add the appropriate amount of wig shampoo or mild detergent (specified on the bottle; usually one to two caps) to the basin of cool water. Gently submerge the hairpiece, swishing it slowly and dunking it up and down. Don't rub or scrub, or you'll end up with a tangle beyond saving. You can let the piece soak in the cool water for a few minutes, then rinse gently. Dry your hairpiece, first by holding it over the basin and letting the water drain, then by setting it on a wig form or Styrofoam head and letting the hair sit at room temperature until it is completely dry. Put a few towels under the form to catch the drips. When drying your wig, you can gently blot the hair with a towel, but don't rub or squeeze. Spray a good coat of wig sheen spray over the fibers once the wig is dry. This product is silicon based, and will make the hairs a bit more slippery and easy to comb. Use the wide-toothed comb if your wig is a straight or wavy style and, starting at the bottom, gently begin to comb. Work your way up the hairpiece, teasing out any tangles and smoothing the hairs down. Use the wide-toothed comb to groom a curly, short piece as well, reshaping the curls around your fingers as you go. Work on small sections at a time. For a final finish, you can use your fingers to arrange the curls. Wash the synthetic hair gently with mild shampoo, and use a natural-hair-safe silicon spray, if your synthetic hair is attached to your head in loose extensions. Gently comb or finger brush synthetic hair extensions into place.

This is what I do............. Prepping hair before braiding BRAIDING HAIR PREPARATION A bit of Information: Most of the Human Hair that we can find in the local BSS - has a silicone wash to keep it from tangling.... Remy hair may be the exception....... So this is what I do..Apply Leave ins. Most of the "silky, shiny," stuff - Conditioners, and shine products are just that... silicone based, so these will work well on BSS hair..... I make sure that I spray my Extension/Braiding hair with any Silicone product ( cause they are pretty much all the same) I tend not to use those products on my OWN hair( unless I flat iron my hair)... but on the extention hair only.... Most commercial conditioners have a slip-type silicone in them... NOT all.... but many of them... HUMAN hair PREP: 1. Wash with Dr. Bronner's Castille soap - gentle... in warm water, in a kitchen tub.. I add a squirt of condish ( African Pride leave in, or clear leave in, Creme of Nature Condish ) to the water... This step also allows for any dyes on the hair to wash away, and not irritate your scalp. 2. Rinse with cold water. Squeeze out the excess. 3. While still wet, add a clear leave in(African Pride, 911, Africa's best, etc), pouring it directly on the hair and down the shaft. (DO NOT USE INFUSIUM, IMO - it is too strong....) 4. I use any silicone product ( except Biosilk - too much alcohol for me.... others include frizzease, sebatians, or any other glossing product) and By hand I rub it down the hair, 5. Hang to dry. Softer, more manageable hair............. WOW..... totally different hair ........ There are fewer tangles, and the hair issoft and more manageable. SYNTHETIC HAIR PREP (Kanekalon, Toyokolon, Pro 10, etc.) 1. Add a small amount (1/4 cup) of vinegar & a Bit of Leave in ) to a large tub of Hot tap water(Not boiling). soak it for 10 minutes 2. Rinse with cold water. Squeeze out the excess. 3. While still wet, add a clear leave in, pouring it directly on the hair and down the shaft. 4. I use any silicone product ( exept Biosilk - too much alcohol for me) and By hand I rub it down the hair, or I spray a spray a silicone product on the hair. ( Suggested: Frizz ease, Spray & Shine, Sebastian, Ion, etc ) 5. Hang to dry. The Hair should be dry within 12 to 24 hours. Similar threads
How do you keep synthetic braids from tangling? We suggest you detangle before going to bed because it helps to reduce further matting at night, making it easier to manage the next morning. Sleeping in a silk/satin bonnet or on a silk/satin pillowcase makes a world of difference. These fabrics help prevent frizz and tangling. Sweet dreams, beautiful!
