Best beach wave spray for fine hair

Regardless of the season, it’s completely possible for you to achieve the “au natural” beach hair look. And this is even if you spend your summers in an air-conditioned office with minimal sea and sun exposure.

You have to use the right products if you want that textured, not-too-clean, beach hair look… without actually going to the beach and getting all hot and stinky and sweaty. And that product, my friend, is sea salt spray.

So of course we had to round up the 10 best sea salt sprays we could find, and lucky for you, these are all available on Amazon! Many are even tailored to specific hair types, so refreshing your already-styled hair is a spritz of carefully prepared salt water away.

A PASTE THAT ACTS LIKE SEA SALT SPRAY: Hanz de Fuko Quicksand

Originally I bought Hanz de Fuko Quicksand to use as a “finisher”, a product that will style and hold my hair. But I have thicker, straighter Asian hair, and it simply didn’t work well for that purpose.

But! I discovered Quicksand to be a great pre-styler; a product you apply on damp hair, right before you blow dry into the style you want. This, in effect, gives you the same results as a sea salt spray.

Best beach wave spray for fine hair

The Hanz de Fuko site says their Quicksand formulation is one part styling wax, one part dry shampoo. The dry shampoo part is definitely dominant. I can sense that as I apply it and as it dries.

Your mileage may vary; maybe you’ll have luck with this as your finishing product, especially if you have the right type of hair.

But if you’re reading this article, there’s a good chance you’re looking for a pre-styler that works like sea salt spray. Hanz de Fuko Quicksand works well in this regard.

Your Commonly Asked Questions About Sea Salt Sprays

Here are some frequently asked questions about sea salt sprays!

What does sea salt spray actually do?

Sea salt sprays are meant to refresh your “next day” hair since it absorbs excess oil and prompts strand separation. It’s a good tool to use between washes.

At the same time, if your hair is too clean (e.g. after a shower), giving it a limp, lifeless look… sea salt spray can help give it some texture, making it easier to style. It’s perfect as a “pre-styler” right out of the shower, before blow drying.

Is it okay to use sea salt spray every day?

No, it isn’t advised to use sea salt spray every single day. The salt can dehydrate hair strands which can lead to brittle hair.

Some sea salt sprays don’t use actual sea salt, and these can often be used more frequently between washes. Even then, the ingredients used will be meant to mimic sea salt, so using it every day still isn’t recommended.

Can you use sea salt spray as hairspray?

Not if you want to freeze your hair in place. If you want a flexible, non-stiff hold, sea salt spray offers styling with natural movement.

But for a true hold, you’ll need actual hairspray. Hairsprays do come in different strengths, so you can find some that provide a decent freeze without turning your ‘do into a helmet.

Fight That Limp Hair Look with Sea Salt Spray

You don’t necessarily need to visit the beach for that tousled, textured hairstyle. There are so many sea salt spray products on the market that effectively do the same thing!

Many of the products here contain beneficial ingredients to effectively nourish your hair and give you the desired results.
