Jujutsu Kaisen is one of those anime series that has made a global impact quite quickly. This dark fantasy show that looks a lot like a slightly modernized version of Tite Kubo’s classic Bleachcaptured the hearts of millions of fans around the world. Jujutsu Kaisen is considered to be among the best and most complete modern-day anime series and with just 24 episodes released so far, one cannot but wonder whether there is going to be a second season of the show.

Jujutsu Kaisen has one season so far and a prequel movie on the way. The manga is still ongoing and the first season hasn’t adapted the whole story so far, which is why we can officially confirm that Jujutsu Kaisen is getting a second anime season which is, according to the current information, set to air in 2023, as we have originally predicted, over two cours and adapting two additional arcs.

The rest of this article is going to bring you all the known and unknown information related to the upcoming second season of Jujutsu Kaisen. You’re going to find out about its potential release date, whether there is a trailer, what the story could be about, and much more about this great anime series.

Now, as of November 2021, Jujutsu Kaisen has a total of 24 episodes released between October 3, 2020 and March 27, 2021 as part of the first season of the anime series, produced by MAPPA. The series initially aired in Japan before being made available in dubbed format thanks to Crunchyroll and some other streaming services in the West.

Jujutsu Kaisen was enormously popular and people actually loved the anime series, which is why it was somewhat strange that a second season was not announced as of yet, especially since the manga is still ongoing and there is material to adapt to.

Instead of a second season, though, we have gotten a movie announcement. Namely, MAPPA has announced that the prequel manga, Jujutsu Kaisen 0, would be getting an anime movie adaptation set for a December 24, 2021 release.

This isn’t really a second season announcement, really, but it goes to show that MAPPA is invested in Jujutsu Kaisen and that it plans to adapt as much of the source material as possible. So, what does this tell us about the second season?

Knowing that the manga is still ongoing and that there is material for more episodes, and taking into account the popularity of the series, the second season of Jujutsu Kaisen seems practically certain. So, is it going to air? Yes, it is! As of February 2022, we know, officially, that Jujutsu Kaisen is coming back for a second season, set to air in 2023. Currently, we don’t have any additional information. More information, including a promo image, was released in September 2022:

It was confirmed that the series would air over two cours and which arcs it would end up adapting, along with the confirmation of a 2023 release date, but no additional details have been provided.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Trailer

As you might have suspected, there is no trailer for the second season of Jujutsu Kaisen and that is simply because the season has not yet been produced, although it has been announced. Now that the second season of Jujutsu Kaisen is a sure thing, we know that a trailer is going to happen soon, although we don’t have any precise date.

Now, as to when we’ll potentially see a trailer, in the best-case scenario, late 2022 or early 2023 would be a possibility, seeing that the new season was announced in February 2022, but we’ll have to wait for more information to confirm an official date.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Plot

The plot of Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 is relatively easy to predict, if the project really does come to fruition. Why? Well, Jujutsu Kaisen is a fairly faithful adaptation of the manga and thanks to that, we can easily connect the 24 episodes that have been aired so far to their manga counterparts.

As for the general structure, Jujutsu Kaisen has a total of twelve major narrative arcs so far. They are:

6. Kyoto Goodwill Event Arc

Now, the Cursed Child arc is actually the narrative of Jujutsu Kaisen 0 and will be adapted in the upcoming movie; it is actually the prequel story to the main Jujutsu Kaisen narrative. Now, as for the main narrative, the anime has adapted six arcs so far, from the Introduction Arc to the Death Painting Arc. The structure is as follows:

So, this tells us where the anime ends, but also what to expect from the second season. In September 2022, it was finally confirmed that the second season would air over two cours (quarters of a year) for a continuous half-year run and will adapt the “Kaigyoku/Gyokusetsu” (Gojo’s Past Arc) and “Shibuya Incident” arcs. This was expected from the overall structure and in order to prepare you for what’s coming, here is an overview of the unadapted arcs of Jujutsu Kaisen:

The first of these arcs reveals flashbacks that show Gojo’s past as a jujutsu student in training, befriended by Suguru Geto. He and Geto fail to protect a young girl from Toji Fushiguro, Megumi’s father, an assassin from the Zenin clan who is unable to use cursed techniques. Toji dies in the process, while Geto decides that the world must be cleansed of non-magicians so that cursed spirits can no longer manifest.

A mole in Kyoto Jujutsu Tech turns out to be Mechamaru, a cursed corpse piloted by severely disfigured second-year student Kokichi Muta. Kokichi betrays Mahito and attacks him with a massive manned and armored version of the Ultimate Mechamaru. However, he is caught and killed when Mahito unleashes a fast domain expansion on him. Mahito escapes with his life.

On October 31, Geto and the Cursed Spirits place a protective screen over Shibuya. Various jujutsu wizards, including Yuji, Megumi, Nobara, Gojo, Nanami, and others, arrive there to fight them. Gojo systematically eliminates the cursed spirits, including Hanami, but becomes trapped in the Prison Realm, a special object that imprisons him in a pocket dimension.

Pseudo-Geto also reveals that the real Geto died long ago and that he is now under the control of an ancient sorcerer named Kenjaku. Yuji sets out to find Mahito to get revenge for what he did to Junpei. He is guided by an implanted earpiece created by Kokichi, whose construct leads him to Mahito. Class 2 jujutsu wizard Takuma Ino fights a curse user named Ogami, who transplants Toji’s spirit into her grandson’s body; Ino kills her, but Toji escapes.

Megumi and Yuji defeat the curse user Jiro Awasaka and head to the subway tunnels. Megumi and other jujutsu wizards, including the head of the Zenin clan Naobito Zenin, fight Dagon, a cursed spirit of a special kind, while Yuji fights Choso, the brother of the two Death Paintings. Toji exorcises Dagon and meets Megumi. He is proud that his son kept the name Fushiguro and not Zenin and commits suicide.

Nanako and Mimiko, curse users who are twin sisters and fiercely loyal to Geto, force Yuji to eat ten of Sukuna’s fingers. This awakens Sukuna to fight Jogo in the skies of Shibuya after Sukuna kills Nanako and Mimiko.

Jogo tries to force Sukuna into a binding oath, but Sukuna refuses and easily wins the fight by replicating and amplifying Jogo’s firepower. Sukuna also saves Megumi from Mahoraga, a powerful shikigami. Yuji and Nobara watch as Mahito kills Nanami.

After Mahito touches Nobara and begins to initiate the Idle Transfiguration, Nobara seemingly kills herself by slashing the left side of her face so he can not affect her. An angry and helpless Yuji fights Mahito with Todo. The fight ends with Kenjaku absorbing Mahito.

Choso shows up and reveals that Yuji is his brother. When the incident finally ends, Kenjaku emerges victorious, revealing that he has been jumping from body to body for thousands of years, implanting Binding Vows, which in turn awaken thousands of new sorcerers throughout Japan, including Tsumiki. He then releases many curses he had stored up and unleashes them on Japan. This is the first step in creating chaos and a world full of cursed spirits like the Heian Period.

In the sequel, Yuji and Megumi team up with second-year Yuta Okkotsu (from Jujutsu Kaisen 0) and second-year Yuki Tsukumo, a special class jujutsu wizard and one of the most powerful wizards of all time, along with Choso and second-year student Maki Zenin, to meet Tengen. Tengen, an immortal jujutsu wizard who is half curse, half human, tells the group about Kenjaku’s plan to merge Tengen’s consciousness with the human population of Japan.

The Culling Game, Kenjaku’s all-out war between the jujutsu sorcerers and curse users of Japan, is about to begin. Yuji, Megumi, and second-year wizard Panda team up with Kinji Hakari and Kirara Hoshi, third-year wizards. Maki kills the entire Zenin clan after her twin sister Mai sacrifices herself for Maki. Megumi becomes the new leader of the Zenin clan (and one of its only remaining members) after Naobito dies fighting Jogo. The Culling Game begins.

Since the Tokyo No. 1 Colony Arc is still ongoing, we won’t be summarizing it here until it’s over.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Cast

As we have said, we don’t have any detailed official info about the second season of Jujutsu Kaisen, so we can only speculate that the main cast from the first seasons, both the Japanese and English voice actors, will return.

If we look at other shows and how things usually play out, the main cast is probably going to return, as it is quite rare for cast members to change between seasons, unless a character ages significantly, but since that is not the case with this show, we expect the cast to return.

This, of course, depends on the production dates and everything else, but this has been the case with most anime so far, as we have said, so we can assume that it will happen again with Jujutsu Kaisen, but we cannot be absolutely certain. So, who would return? Here is a list:

Where to Watch Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2?

At this moment, as expected, there is no means of watching Jujutsu Kaisen season two, as there is no season two of Jujutsu Kaisen to watch. In Japan, the first season was broadcast on JNN’s news stations, while a stream was provided first by Crunchyroll, with the show also later appearing on HBO Max and Netflix (but only for Asian markets).

It is safe to assume that JNN will retain the rights for Japan, with Crunchyroll retaining the streaming rights for countries outside Asia; whether HBO Max, Netflix, or some other streaming service will also buy the rights is still unknown but it wouldn’t really surprise us.
