How to switch back to a personal Instagram account from a business account?

So here is how to switch back to a personal account on Instagram:

1. Open up the Instagram you wish to switch back to a personal account
2. Click on the hamburger menu in the top right corner
3. Click ‘Settings”
4. Then click on ‘Account’
5. Scroll down and then tap on ‘Switch account type’
6. Tap on ‘Switch to Personal Account’
7. Confirm that you want to ‘Switch to Personal Account’

Now your Instagram has been switched back to a personal account. If you want to get the benefits of private Instagram accounts, don’t forget to set your Instagram account to private as well.

Why switch back to a personal account on Instagram?

Even if you use the Instagram account for business purposes or to make money, it makes sense sometimes to switch back to a personal account on Instagram, and here is the reason.

We have explained the many benefits of an Instagram business account in other articles, but there is one very powerful feature that only Instagram personal accounts have: using a private Instagram account.

Private Personal accounts on Instagram

So if you want to have a private Instagram account you can only have that if you switch to a personal Instagram account. The great benefit of a private Instagram account is that Instagram users can only see your Instagram posts if they follow you.

And as it turns out it is one of the most powerful Instagram growth strategies. If people can’t see your posts, they are more likely to follow you so they can see your Instagram posts.

What happens if you switch back to a personal Instagram account?

So as now you understand, it can make sense to switch back to a personal Instagram account.

However, keep in mind that you will lose all the features of Instagram business accounts, which include running Instagram ads, setting up Instagram shop, Quick replies, etc.

The other disadvantage of switching back to a personal Instagram profile is that you will lose all the Insights of your Instagram business account. So you won’t get any insights on the performance of your Instagram posts and all your previous Insights will be deleted as well.

To use all the Instagram features available in Hootsuite, your Business profile must be connected to a Facebook Page. This is a requirement from Facebook (which owns Instagram). Hootsuite gets the permissions to manage your Instagram profile through Facebook. You don't need to publish to the Page when you use Instagram.

Before you begin

To convert your Instagram profile, you need:

• A Facebook Page to connect your Instagram profile to.
  • Only one Instagram profile can be connected to a Facebook Page and vice versa. If you need to create a new one, see the Facebook help article Create a Facebook Page.
• An Admin or Editor page role for that Facebook Page if it's a classic Page type or Facebook access with full control or partial control on a new Page type. See the Facebook help article See your Facebook Page role or access.
  • If the Page is an asset in Facebook Business Manager, you need management access to the Page in the Business Manager account as well. See the Facebook help article Add people to your Business Manager.

Convert your Instagram profile to a Business profile

1. In the Instagram mobile app, go to your profile, and then select the menu in the top right.
2. Select Settings, then Account, and then scroll to the bottom.
   1. If you have a Personal account: Select Switch to professional account, and then choose Business.
   2. If you have a Creator account: Select Switch account type, and then Switch to business account.
