Exercise After Spider Vein Treatment?

Spider veins, though annoying and unattractive, are easily treated by Dr. Schwartz in the comfort of our beautiful Leawood clinic (located just north of Town Center Plaza and Park Place). Many of our physically active patients are sometimes hesitant to schedule a vein treatment as they don’t want to interrupt their various exercise and training programs.

The good news is that sclerotherapy (the gold standard for spider vein treatment), requires only a one day reprieve from exercise.  We ask our sclerotherapy patients not to exercise, work out or do anything that may significantly elevate their heart rate for just 24-36 hours after each treatment session. Any kind of “pounding” activity (running, high impact aerobics, etc.) would be best limited for 2-3 days, however beyond this one’s normal activities are fine.

So, if you do exercise or work out, we ask that you do so the day before your treatment, or even the morning of, and then plan on taking a day off in between your next work-out, as long as it doesn’t involve “pounding”, which can be resumed in just a few days.

Remember that running, biking, swimming, jogging or any type of exercise involving the use of your legs, even just walking an adequate distance or time duration, is not only good for your general health, but these types of activities also assist your body in properly pumping blood through your veins, which helps to slow possible development or progression of vein disease!
