Audi Flip Key Fob Battery Replacement

For the Audi Flip key, you'll need one CR1620 battery. The battery is for sale at our parts center. Once you have the replacement battery, simply: 

  • Separate the case into two halves using a flat screwdriver
  • Set aside the side that has the flip metal key in it
  • Separate the shell of the half you still have using the screwdriver
  • Remove the battery, making sure to note the positive side of the battery
  • Place the new battery in the housing
  • Press the shell on until it snaps
  • Put the two key halves back together.

Note: If your car doesn't recognize your key fob after you've changed the battery, insert the key into the driver's side door. Use the key to unlock and lock the door manually, then remove from the door and press the "unlock" button. 

Audi Smart Keyless Entry Remote Battery Replacement

You'll need one CR2032 battery for your Audi Smart Keyless Entry Remote. After that, you'll need to: 

  • Locate the key release found in the chrome part of the key and use your thumb to press down
  • Remove the metal key blade from the shell
  • Grip the exposed plastic of the battery holder with your thumb and remove it from the key fob
  • Remove the battery, making sure to note the positive side of the battery
  • Replace it with a fresh battery, making sure the positive side is facing the plastic
  • Add the battery holder back into the shell
  • Reinsert the metal key into the shell

Audi Remote Battery Replacement 

This Audi key fob also requires one CR2032 battery. To change out the battery, you'll need to:

  • Flip open the metal key
  • Press the back cover of the key using a small screwdriver
  • Pop up the back cover at the end of the keyfob
  • Remove the back cover; the battery will be located inside
  • Pull out the battery, making sure to pay attention to note the positive side of the battery
  • Put a new battery in the back cover
  • Place the back cover back on the Audi key fob

Use this technique to replace the key fob battery for the Audi Q5 / SQ5 first generation (Mk 1, 2008-2017).  An indication that the battery requires replacing is if the check light in the key (C) no longer illuminates when a button on the master key is pressed.

Additionally, a warning light will illuminate on the dashboard display

informing you that the battery requires replacing. The message: ‘Please change key battery’ may display.

  1. Remove the mechanical key from the master key fob by pressing the release button (A), then pull the mechanical key from the master key in the direction of the arrows.
  2. Remove the battery holder from the master key by pressing the release button (D) whilst at the same time pull out the battery holder in the direction of the arrow.
  3. Remove the dead battery and replace with a new CR 2032 with the ‘+’ sign facing down.
  4. Reinsert the battery holder and click in place.
  5. Reinsert the mechanical key and click in place.
  6. Press a button on the remote key fob and check that the LED illuminates as confirmation.

Use this technique to replace the key fob battery for the Audi Q5 / SQ5 second generation (Mk 2, 2018-present).

If the LED on the key fob no longer illuminates (A) when a button is pressed, it means the battery is dead and requires replacing. The vehicle key low battery warning light may also illuminate

along with a message warning that the battery is low.

  1. First remove the mechanical key from the fob by pressing buttons (B) and pulling the mechanical in the direction of the arrow.
  2. Now you’ll need to remove the battery holder by pressing buttons (C) and pulling in the direction of the arrow.
  3. Remove the old battery and insert a new CR 2032 battery with the ‘+’ facing down.
  4. Slide the battery holder back into the key fob and click in place.
  5. Reinsert the mechanical key until it clicks in place.
  6. Press a button on the remote key fob and check that the LED illuminates as confirmation.
