Mar 11, 2019 (Edited) (Sorry for the double posting of this question: I'm a rookie in this forum. Chastise me gently, please!) Hi, I get a code stating that the crankshaft position sensor A circuit isn't working (and the car is hard to start, so I don't doubt it). Now I want to change the sensor, but I can't find it on the engine! Can anyone help me out? I hope it's
not buried with the timing belt. And I'm surprised that Google, which is usually so helpful in such matters, isn't helping. Thanks in advance for any help. Joined Feb 10, 2019 · 825 Posts
What code did you get....? was it p0016 and p0017? Joined Feb 10, 2019 · 825 Posts
The Crank sensor is on the transmission - - - where the engine and trans meet - -Just under the front valve train. Not hard - - I just replaced my crank sensor last week. Joined Mar 11, 2019 · 6 Posts

Oct 20, 2015 I know this is probably out there but all the guides and videos I have found are of different years. I have a 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe. I need to know where the Crankshaft Sensor is located at. Thank you!

I'm fixing it for a friend and the vehicle isn't here yet but I texted her and she said its a V6 and thinks its the 2.7L. If it's the 2.7 you are very very lucky. It is located right above the starter. Just have to take the shield off the starter. Once you get the shield off, spot from the oil filter back
above the starter to spot the crank sensor. Use a 10mm 1/4 inch drive to take out the single bolt holding it in. You need a thin walled socket because the bolt is very close to the sensor. Some have reported that the sensor gets stuck in it's hole. Be glad it's not the 3.5 because getting to that is like putting on a new timing belt. Joined Apr 29, 2010 · 175 Posts
Here's a pic of a new engine, bank 2 (front) and I'm pretty sure the crank sensor goes in the hole you can see in the lower right corner of the engine block. You can see the reluctor ring through the hole. Bruce

Bruce gives you an excellent picture. It's easiest to access it from the bottom of the engine and remove the heat shield from the starter, if i remember correctly. It's a 10mm bolt on a tab, which is your other hole to the left in the pic that Bruce posted. Be gentle, if the sensor is very old it might break during removal an
leave pieces inside your engine. Search this forum and you will find lots of info on the Crank sensor, which is often confused with the cam sensor. The cam sensor is located on the top of the engine off the intake plenum. Joined Nov 15, 2006 · 392 Posts
Easiest just to take the starter off. It opens up a lot of space and you will be done quicker.
