Why is derek jeter not in mlb the show 22

A good example of ‘too good to be true’ is the Derek Jeter cover for the MLB’s official video game. “The Show 2022” featuring Jeter appears to be a fan creation. What seemed like sheer planning and perfect execution on part of the video game company will now be looked at as a contrived sequence of events that fans fell prey to.

MLB announced its cover athlete for The Show 2022 on Monday to be Shohei Ohtani. On the back of his stellar 2021 unanimous AL MVP season, we would have expected nothing less. But quickly, the rumors of another cover began to make the round for a fortuitous release. Featuring New York Yankees Legend, Derek Jeter, sporting the #2 jersey on the cover, fans bought into the cover to be released on February 2nd, 2022, all for naught.

However, a Twitter user quickly came to clarify that the cover was a mere fan creation and that no such release had actually been planned. It was only to be a prospective cover for fans to get hyped about.

The Twitter user quickly took to the site to inform fans about it being a fan-created piece. However, given that the inclusion of Derek Jeter into the game again was something so eagerly anticipated, the fans seem to buy into the hype right away.

The user went on to keep the hopes of ‘Bronx Bombers’ fans though. The cover could still potentially feature Jeter, just that this one isn’t the original cover.

But he must have caused some jitters at Nintendo, who were allegedly responsible for the leak in the first place. Imagine their surprise when they were being blamed for leaking a cover they don’t even have access to.

With this being fake apparently, you know SDS employees were like “what the fuck” and Nintendo switch was like “we swear to god we didn’t do this” 😂😂

The editor of the image finally came through and set the record straight, revealing that it was indeed him who had carried out the edit in the first place.

And while we apologize to the Yankees fans for causing the false hype, we still hold out hope. We could be in this for a double fake-out, with the cover actually featuring Jeter and the release actually being set for 2/2/2022. We should know soon enough. But until that point, fingers crossed.

I am a big MLB The Show fan, and started playing them on the original PSP when it was released. So my understanding of the roster would be the previous year's default roster. I know that updated rosters exist, but why is Derek Jeter not in the game considering he played for 2014?

Maybe I missed a post about it already, I'm just curious.

MVP	Re: Why isn�t Derek Jeter in mlb games? Once a player retires and isn’t part of the MLBPA anymore they have to be removed from the game for legal reasons. They would need permission to add Jeter to the game. They add new former players to the game every year and sometimes they lose some. It’s possible SDS has already wanted to and Jeter doesn’t want to be in the game or they couldn’t come to an agreement with him for whatever reason. Last edited by Rocket32; 01-25-2021 at 09:44 PM.

Rookie	Re: Why isn�t Derek Jeter in mlb games? I'm always curious on the reasoning a player doesn't want to be in a game. Especially a guy like Jeter who doesn't need to negotiate dollars, he has enough. Unless it's like a Barkley deal, where he wants them all to get paid more for using their likeness.

During their meeting, Kolbe spilled red wine on Jeter's new $2,000 white sofa and the relationship between Jeter and SDS has been strained ever since. Kolbe, Eddy Cramm, Ramone Russell, and others at SDS agreed to pitch in and purchase Jeter a brand new sofa, but the damage had already been done.
