On the back of his stellar 2021 unanimous AL MVP season, we would have expected nothing less. But quickly, the rumors of another cover began to make the round for a fortuitous release. Featuring New York Yankees Legend, Derek Jeter, sporting the #2 jersey on the cover, fans bought into the cover to be released on February 2nd, 2022, all for naught. It was only to be a prospective cover for fans to get hyped about. This has been a prank, there’s the cameraThe Twitter user quickly took to the site to inform fans about it being a fan-created piece. However, given that the inclusion of Derek Jeter into the game again was something so eagerly anticipated, the fans seem to buy into the hype right away.
The user went on to keep the hopes of ‘Bronx Bombers’ fans though. The cover could still potentially feature Jeter, just that this one isn’t the original cover. But he must have caused some jitters at Nintendo, who were allegedly responsible for the leak in the first place. Imagine their surprise when they were being blamed for leaking a cover they don’t even have access to.

We could be in this for a double fake-out, with the cover actually featuring Jeter and the release actually being set for 2/2/2022. We should know soon enough. But until that point, fingers crossed. So my understanding of the roster would be the previous year's default roster. I know that updated rosters exist, but why is Derek Jeter not in the game considering he played for 2014? Maybe I missed a post about it already, I'm just curious.
