What to see in Toronto in 2 Days...?

Hi,

I will in Toronto on Business in mid-June and have 2/3 days free time at the beginning of my trip.

I will be arriving into Toronto on a Saturday afternoon, so will likely have a half day on the first day, and then a full day on Sunday / Monday.

I will be staying the Hilton (Downtown), I don't yet have a car however I can collect or if its more suitable?

Ideally, I would like to see Niagra Falls (probably on the Sunday), any suggestions on best method of getting there on a Sunday? Also I am arriving from the UK, would I need a USA ESTA at any point on the trip if I drove?

Does anyone have any other suggestions for absolute must see/do's on either the Saturday or Sunday?

Many thanks,

Unless you are planning to cross into the USA, and I can't imagine why you would with such little time at your disposal, you do not need any pre-USA paperwork.

Niagara Falls is a 90 minute drive from Toronto. if you're comfortable driving on the (to you) wrong side of the road, then renting a vehicle for the day, and driving down to see the Falls, and the surrounding Niagara region (Niagara-on-the-Lake, wineries, etc.), then it would be a good day trip. Alternately, there are lots of things to do in Toronto to keep you busy for your few free days.

Take a look at the Things to Do section of the Toronto forum page. Also - what types of things are you interested in - sports, museums, history, attractions, etc. Knowing that will make suggesting easier. You might consider going to a ballgame if the Jays are in town.

Hi,

Many thanks for coming back to me.

I have a ball game planned on Tuesday evening with work colleagues which should be great as it is my first time at one...

I am thinking more along the lines of attractions and places of interest in Toronto that are worth seeing.

Also what is the best part of town to wander around and soak up the atmosphere and probably go for Dinner solo?

Thanks again...

CN Tower is always a top attraction, edgewalk if you are brave enough to pony up the cash and walk on the CN Tower....

What kind of fare would you like to try, Toronto has just about everything you would want to try and eat....

Hi,

Yeah I have seen the Edge walk, not sure I'm that brave, but will try and get to the tower.

Food wise, preference for Sushi or Italian and also something traditional? Also probably somewhere which has a few pleasant bars?

Many thanks...

"Little Italy" is located along College Street from west of Bathurst to Ossington, lots of nice restaurants there. And pretty much every neighbourhood in Toronto has its own sushi place. Baldwin Street between Beverly and McCaul is a surprising little strip of multi-ethnic restaurants in an otherwise residential area, and these days it has a lot of Japanese places. Bloor Street between Bathurst and Christie is the Korean Business District, if you prefer Korean sushi rather than Japanese. I'd suggest using yelp.ca to search a given area for a given type of restaurant.

Not sure what you mean by traditional in this context?

Lots of good neighbourhoods for pleasant bars... you could check out Markham Street just south of Bloor (quiet leafy area with some lively patios), Bloor Street between Bathurst and Spadina (The Annex -- a bit of a student-heavy neighbourhood), The Esplanade just west of Yonge (more upscale and flashy), Yorkville (the two streets north of Bloor between Avenue Rd and Bay St -- very upscale), Queen Street just east and slightly west of Broadview (newer, trendy bars), just to get you started.

For Niagara Falls, you could take the Megabus from Toronto Bus Terminal (on Bay Street). Ticket is only $10.

Here is the website, you could plug in your dates and destination: www.mega bus.com

Don't forget to check out Eaton Centre while you're here. While visiting Eaton Centre, you will be right on the corner of Yonge St. and Dundas St. Great to just walk up and down with lots of restaurants and fastfood. Lots of sushi places along Yonge St. If you decide to walk west on Dundas as well, it will take you to Chinatown, and of course loaded with inexpensive Chinese food.

Toronto City Hall (old and new) are right beside Eaton Centre as well, but at the Queen Street W. which also has tons of neat places to eat and drink.

Personally, I think CN Tower is boring, but I guess its a must do for most visitors.

Esplanade and St. Lawrence Market area has great places to eat and drink, trendy and nice area.

Oh, since you are staying at Hilton, you will be on Queen St anyway, and very close to Eaton Centre anyway. King St. Right beside your hotel gets busy because of all the great restaurants and bars.

Unless you have a great desire to go shopping in a mall filled with chain stores, there's no real reason to visit the Eaton Centre.

I visit TO regularly and was last there in March. I'm from london. One thing I would say is if you're looking to rent a car to book it from a international chains website before you leave. I would recommend Thrifty. The reason for this is because if you rent/book when you get there, the rental companies charge quite a lot for insurance to visitors outside of north america. Apparently locals can use their own insurance when renting and the daily charges they advertise do not include insurance surcharges. when you do add all that up.... a special promo of $9.99-$14.99 per day can work out to be $65 plus! also if you get time try and visit the out of city shopping centres. Scarborough and Vaughan mills are good.

Is 2 days enough for Toronto?

I have visited Toronto twice, and on both trips I only spent about 48 hours in the city. Two days is enough to fall in love with this Canadian city! Toronto is not necessarily a scenic city in the sense of traditional urban beauty nor is it a city designed for tourist attractions.

How many days should one spend in Toronto?

To see and experience all that is Toronto, you should plan a stay of at least a week (preferably in spring, summer, or fall -- winters can be bitter, though no worse than a winter in New York City).
