Who Plays on Monday Night Football Tonight?

Teams
New England Patriots vs. Chicago Bears

Location
Gillette Stadium, Foxborough, Massachusetts

Monday Night Football tonight features two teams that fans might not ordinarily be clamoring for in prime time (at least as it pertains to the 2022 season), but those who are a fan of prolific running games have come to the right place.

The Chicago Bears, sitting at 2-4 on the season, enter Week 7 ranked second in rushing yards per game (170.7). Bears head coach Matt Eberflus and his offensive coaching staff have summarily neglected the passing game, rushing the ball a league-high 58.81% of the time while attempting to take some weight off of second-year QB Justin Fields.

The New England Patriots, at 3-3, dive into the week ranked 10th in rushing yards per game (131.3) on the back of Rhamondre Stevenson. The second-year ball carrier has shouldered the load for New England’s offense, running the ball 70 times over the past four contests for an average of 94 yards per game. He’s also scored three rushing touchdowns during that stretch.

With sophomore quarterback Mac Jones expected to return for this matchup following a three-game absence due to a high ankle sprain, it’s possible that New England turns back to its passing game more than it did in previous weeks. That said, when you find a winning formula in the NFL, it’s often best to stick with it, and the Patriots seem to have found such a formula on the ground.

It’s probably safe to assume that Stevenson and Damien Harris, the latter of whom is returning from his own injury, will continue to see the bulk of New England’s touches on offense.

The opening line for this contest sits at New England (-8). Given how stout the Patriots’ defense has looked over the last two weeks and how much Chicago has floundered on offense, Vegas assumes that the Bears will struggle to keep up with Stevenson, Harris, and the rest of New England’s attack.

PFN’s Betting Director BJ Rudell broke down this game in his Week 7 picks and predictions.

“The recently 1-3 Patriots are now 3-3 and poised to go above .500 ahead of two crucial contests against the Jets, sandwiched around a winnable home matchup versus the Colts.

This Bears game should mark their easiest win among these next four games. Justin Fields’ erratic play aligns well with New England’s mistake-pouncing defense. I’d be on the Patriots at minus-12, so their current line makes this a no-brainer.”
