Logically, we really shouldn’t feel any differently about small food than we feel about normal-sized food.

It’s not like we eat food whole. With both, you’re taking the same size bites. The makeup of those bites is the same. And yet, if there’s sliders on the menu, then I want to get them.

It makes no sense, but small food is more fun.

For this reason, it makes total sense that Jack in the Box has a hit on its hands with tiny tacos. Their standard tacos are already legendary in the fast food space, and pulling a Rick Moranis on them has gotten the internet talking. But do they live up to this hype? My answer is: “Yes, kind of.”

The tiny tacos have two configurations: standard and loaded.

An order comes with 15 tacos, and with $3 for standard and $4 for loaded, that's a steal and a half. I don’t care how small they are, if you eat 15 of something, you’re going to feel satisfied. (Unless they're unsalted, unroasted almonds.)

In the standard, you’re getting a fried hard-shell taco filled with a beef and beans mix. They’re not overly generous with the filling, but there’s 15 of them, so you’ll live.

The loaded version

The loaded version is where we run into a spot of trouble. I am more than 1 day old, so I am aware there is often a gap between how a fast food item looks in promotional images and how it looks when served to you. But even accounting for that, what I was handed was jarring.

The taco box looked like the inside of the Mutt Cutts van from the opening scene of Dumb and Dumber. I don’t need my fast food to be beautiful. No, the issue here is that it becomes impossible to eat it without getting half the queso stuck between your knuckles. I would call that lettuce more mangled than shredded. It also appeared I got the vaunted “all stalk” cut.

Things get messy quickly.

I take such issue with the flaws because despite looking more like a cafeteria trash can than a food item people pay money for, loaded is the way to go. These little babies just sing when you get some queso on them.

And in the end, that’s the only thing that matters: Jack in the Box now has tacos that are smaller than regular tacos, and they’re pretty tasty.

Jack in the Box has gone bite-sized once more with the re-release of their Tiny Tacos. The Tiny Tacos will be arriving at Jack in the Box on January 16, 2020, and will be up for grabs at some Jack in the Box locations across the United States. With much anticipation, customers who resided in states other than Austin and Dallas, Texas, and Fresno, California were not able to get a hold of those mini treats by Jack in the Box the last time they were available. In July of 2019, these tiny tacos were only on the menu for a period of two months, but this time many Jack in the Box customers will have another chance to munch on these.

Jack in the Box is handing out 15 pieces of their Tiny Tacos for a price of $3,  and each order is accompanied by a Creamy Avocado Lime Sauce. The Loaded Tiny Tacos come at a price of $4 for 15 pieces, and they are topped with melted cheese, shredded lettuce, and a creamy taco sauce. Customers should also note that the price of these mini treats may be subject to change based on a certain location.

A variety of other offers are available on the Jack in the Box’s website, as well. Currently, customers can receive the Jack’s Mini Munchies for $3, the 2 for $3 Breakfast Jacks, and the Breakfast All Day promotion. Customers can also order the White Cheddar Cheeseburger Combo for $4.99. Some of these are offered only on a limited time, so why not hurry to your local Jack in the Box restaurant?

If you believe Jack in the Box’s tacos are a culinary abomination that makes Taco Bell’s food look and taste like something from the finest taquerias in Mexico, then you will not enjoy Jack’s Tiny Tacos.

An order comes with 15 miniature tacos that are about 1/6th the size of Jack’s regular taco. Even though they look like smaller versions, right down to the crunchy edges and the grease stain in the middle, they are not perfect scaled-down replicas. Each is filled with just seasoned ground ground beef ground ground chicken and spices. They lack the shredded lettuce and cheese the original has.

(Editor’s Note: Jack in the Box has informed us that the Tiny Tacos have ground chicken and spices, hence the edit above.)

The Tiny Tacos have a flavor that’s similar to their much bigger brother, which is why Jack in the Box Taco Haters need not apply. But I’ll admit because they taste the same, it’s a little boring.

Fortunately, with every order, there’s a container of a new dipping sauce — Creamy Avocado Lime. It’s pretty much a guacamole-flavored dipping sauce, and it makes these noticeably different from the original and tastier. Unfortunately, I received only one container, which, even with conservative double-dipping, didn’t last for all 15 in the box. Four of them never got the chance to be dipped into the sauce that has a color I’ve seen way too many times dripping, oozing, or squirting on Rick and Morty.

As I mentioned earlier, regular Tiny Tacos don’t contain lettuce and cheese. If you want some, you have to get the Loaded Tiny Tacos. But they’re dumped on top of the 15 mini tacos along with taco sauce, turning the finger food into fork food (the utensil is included, and the grease stain makes an excellent soft target for a fork’s prongs).

The added sauce amps up the flavors that already exist with the regular Tiny Tacos. But the cheese doesn’t do much to really differentiate the flavors between the two offerings or a regular taco. And that is why I’d recommend getting the regular version over the loaded one. The tasty Creamy Avocado Lime Sauce makes the difference here. Of course, you could ask for a container of the sauce with your order of the loaded one, and that would be even more ideal.

While these are minuscule munchies, I found myself a bit full after eating half of the loaded version and most of the regular one (I stopped after running out of the sauce).

Jack in the Box’s Tiny Tacos are cute, but I can’t help but think I’m paying a lot for that cuteness. Jack’s price for two tacos is one of the best deals in fast food, and what’s in an order of this new menu item is equivalent to roughly three full tacos, but at three times the price of two regular tacos.

But I suggest you order them just once so that you can let out an “awwww” when you see how small they are in real life. And then, if you’re craving Jack’s tacos again, get the two tacos deal and ask for a container of the Creamy Avocado Lime Sauce.

How much are the 15 mini tacos at Jack in the Box?

The bite-sized tacos deserve an equally bite-sized critique. The chain started serving Nacho Tiny Tacos (priced around $3.50 for 15 pieces) earlier this month, billing them as a cheesy upgrade to its longtime Tiny Tacos offering.

Does Jack in the Box sell tiny tacos?

Tiny Tacos is a menu item sold at Jack in the Box consisting of miniature crispy corn shell tacos with a meat filling. A regular order of Tiny Tacos contains 15 Tiny Tacos and one dipping sauce.
