St mary hospital and medical center program family medicine residency

Post-doctoral training has been part of St. Mary’s tradition since 1904. To this day we provide compassionate care to the Bay Area community, including the urban underserved. Our residents and faculty are a diverse group who reflect the multi-cultural and multi-racial patient population of the Bay Area. The Internal Medicine residency is a highly collegial program that strives to combine the best educational aspect of both community hospital and major academic medical center settings. Dear Future Family Physician,

I would like to welcome you to the St. Mary Mercy Hospital Family Medicine Residency and I thank you for showing interest in our program! Please review the information on the website as you explore options for a future residency program. We are a community based program affiliated with Trinity Health St. Mary Mercy Hospital in Livonia, MI. The residency’s outpatient clinic, the Trinity Health Academic Family Medicine- Northwest Livonia (formerly Center for Family Care), is in close proximity to the hospital, making it an easy commute to most rotations.

The residency program is geared towards the way most Family Physicians practice today – in the outpatient setting with ability to practice in-patient medicine/urgent care or pursue fellowship upon graduation. We provide a broad scope of experiences that is needed to practice family medicine.

Our faculty our invested in each resident's education. The faculty physicians are board certified in Family Medicine, staff the in-patient/outpatient service, and additionally two of our faculty are certified in Obstetrics. We have a unique integration with pediatrics as we have a Core Faculty board certified Pediatrician who conducts clinic in the same location as the residency clinic which allows for a well-rounded pediatric experience. All faculty are dedicated to providing residents with educational opportunities that will allow them to practice independently and excel in their chosen scope of practice.

Our goal is for each resident to achieve their career goals. Each resident has a faculty advisor and with help from our behavioral specialist along with program leadership we help residents achieve their professional goals.

We value quality patient care and strive to provide our patients with affordable, high-quality medical care in a comfortable, patient-centered environment. Our residents and faculty work with our staff to provide the best team-based care for our patients of diverse backgrounds and truly approach each patient with compassionate understanding.

With that in mind, the mission of the St. Mary Mercy Family Medicine Residency Program is to:

  1. Develop the full potential of Family Physicians to provide excellent medical care for families and individuals in the community,
  2. Maintain and advance the highest standards of the specialty of Family Medicine, and
  3. Derive a high level of success and satisfaction from the practice of Family Medicine

We are excited to have you consider our program as your “home away from home” for the next three years and look forward to meeting you in the future!
