Used Golf Carts For Sale in Van Wert, OH & Decatur, IN

Tips for Buying a Used Golf Cart

Getting a used cart is a great way to get the model you need at a much more affordable price. But not all pre-owned golf carts are the same! Some are a wise investment while others will end up costing you a fortune in repair bills. Check out the following tips on finding a steal of a deal. Then visit Van Wert Carts & More to see models for sale. We proudly serve those in Dayton, Ohio.

Refurbished vs Used

You may hear or see these terms often in your search and it helps to know what they mean. A used or pre-owned golf cart refers to a vehicle that has left the dealership lot. It could only be a day old, but if it's been bought and driven once it is therefore used.

Refurbished is a term to describe a model that has seen many years of use on the course. In many cases, it only gets a fresh coat of paint, new tires, and new seats. The mechanical aspect is often left alone, which means it's easy to buy this option and end up with expensive repairs soon after. If you go this route, be sure the refurbishment took place at a credible dealer who updated more than the aesthetics.

The Age

Keep in mind the benefits and drawbacks of older models. The more years on a model, the lower the price will be. But the older a used cart is, the harder it can be to find replacement parts. In general, you will want to look for something that is 15 years old or less.

You'll also want to consider the age of the battery. These tend to need replacement after about three years - and they don't come cheap! Most will cost you at least $600 and some models will be more.

Test Drive

Always take a pre-owned golf cart out for a test drive first before making your final purchase. Take it out over rough terrain as well as smooth paved roads to see how it handles. Does the wheel pull to the left or the right? Does it take a while to start up? Do the brakes grind or squeal? Try to find any problems now so that you can factor in repair costs into your budget.
