What You Need

When replacing the Mazda CX-5 key battery, you will need a few items. This includes a CR2025 battery or equivalent to place into the key fob, a tape-wrapped flathead screwdriver or equivalent tool with a softer tip, and a clean space to place your key fob parts to ensure they don’t go missing during the process.

Step-By-Step Process

  1. Press the small knob and pull out the auxiliary key.
  2. Twist a tape-wrapped flathead screwdriver (or flat, soft-tipped item) into the small side space to gently pry open.
  3. Insert your tool into the outer gap and slide it along the opening. Twist to remove the cover.
  4. Remove the battery cap and battery. Make sure the rubber ring is not damaged or detached. If it detaches, reattach it before placing in a new battery.
  5. Insert a new battery with the positive pole facing up. Cover the battery with the battery cap.
  6. Close the cover. Re-insert the auxiliary key.

How long does a Mazda CX

Like any battery, you eventually will need to replace your MAZDA CX-5 key fob battery or MAZDA CX-30 key fob battery. So, how long do key fob batteries last? Typically, the battery should last around three to four years.

What happens when the battery dies in your key fob?

If your key fob dies while driving, nothing will happen. The car will continue to operate simply because the key fob is an unlocking and starting device only. Once the car is in motion, the ability of the key fob to affect the ignition or engine is zero.
