Model Number MLE2000AYW Brand Maytag Age 6-10 years

We have a Maytag Neptune Stack washer (Model MLE2000AYW, Serial 66859062CA) which we purchased new in 2003. After multiple problems in the 1st few months of ownership it has been mostly maintenance free - until today. The washer keeps turning off (after ~30 seconds) after you push the start/stop button. My wife loaded the washer this morning, pushed the start button, waited for red light to come one and start filling with water then left for a few errands. Came back home and found washer light off, timer switch still on the wash cycle portion and clothes wet. After moving the timer switch to various postions, story is the same... red light comes on..then washer starts filling or makes draining noises (never seems to tumble) and then turns off in about 30 seconds. Sometimes door lock light goes on...sometimes not. A weeks worth of kids vacation clothers laying on laundry room floor... help! Any suggestions on where to start? Thanks.

PS: got carried away with the zero's in the model number above. It's MLE2000AYW.

Hi,

You may want to check your main control board now for burned spots on it now.

Its located at the top of your dryer, under the top dryer panel. Unplug or turn the breaker off to your stackable first.

Here's the repair manual for your Neptune Stackable you can print out: www.applianceblog.com/manuals/MaytagNeptuneStack.pdf

Here's the main control board for your model:

If you see any burnt spots on it, The root cause of the main control board going out(burnt spots) is the door wax motor. You will need to replace that as well.

Unplug or turn the breaker off to your stack, then here's the repair manual for your model that shows you how to access the door wax motor: www.applianceblog.com/manuals/16009127.pdf

Here's the wax motor kit for your model you can order here:

HI Jake,
Thanks for the reply. I pulled the main controller board and looked it over pretty well, but don't see any obvious signs that any components burned. I didn't go look at the door wax motor you mentioned. What next?
Thanks.

Ok, Look at the repair manual I linked you to above and on Page 53 TROUBLESHOOTING SECTION 3 look what it says: "Runs for 5 seconds then shuts off"

Do what it tells you, you can print those pages out to make it easier when your at the machine.

Ok..., started going thru the motor & motor control test section.

What I assume is the motor control board at bottom of my washer doesn't look same as the pictures in the repair manual. I assume they made change that didn't make it into the repair manual or do I have the wrong board? See picture of mine.

If it's the right board, before I start messing with it, do the same diagnostics apply? They tell me to pull the JP4 connector and plug in a power test cord... but my connectors all look different?

Thanks.

Found my wiring diagram that came with the washer...I see the motor control board is different than shown in service manual link provided, but I figured out which one is the JP4 connector. Don't see any burned components on the motor board. I'll try the diagnostics and get back with you.

It seems that 30 seconds is the magic interval on the washwer timer to look for input...I'm beginning to wonder if the washwer timer which connects to the external control dial is the issue? Sounds pretty 'rachety' when you turn it to the different cycles. I remember the same timer went bad on us for the drier side a few years ago. Is that a possibility?
Thanks.

Disconnected the JP4 connector and ran diagnostics... motor tumbles at 50 rpm so Motor/Motor control board should be OK. Manually checked connections from motor control board to machine control board as best I could and don't see any obvious problems (Not sure I saw the RD 30 wire going to P4(2)/RD 30 connector, but all wires seem to be properly connected and think it's unlikely a wire properly connected has an issue now.)

Manual says the suspect problem is "Timer Input Circuits"....Do you think I should try replacing the washer timer?

Thanks.

Connections on main control board...manually seated them before I put front cover back on...

Sorry for all the posts Jake... 1 more question.

In process of pulling the panels off/on I noticed black mold all over the washer seal. I know the Neptunes have that issue...we try to keep door open and wipe ever load..but looks like it needs replacing. How big of a job is that? Can I just replace the seal only?

Thanks.

OK... thanks Jake.

I ordered the wax motor kit and will give it a try... it's an inexpensive enough part swap. Our situation is a little different than Christies, in that our washer never finishes a cycle after you push the start/stop button again. Can't keep limping it along...it keeps quiting after ~ 30 seconds every time. The door lock light does come on...but sometimes I've seen when it quits the door light is off..and on light is still on..but washer not running.

Orderd the seal also....

I'll let you know what I find after the parts arrive.

Thanks.

Ok Brian sounds good, yes the timers on these are rare to go bad, but can happen. The main parts I see go bad are the door wax motor and main control board for this issue.

Thanks!!!!!

IT WORKS - PROBLEM FIXED !!!!!!

Ordered the door wax motor Monday morning, it arrived today (Tuesday), put the part in after work and we're back in business!

My wife & I were crossing our fingers up to the 30 seconds when it typcially stopped, but it kept on going and the load is almost finished now. I assume that the door must not have locked so the washer kept stopping the cycle.

Thanks so much Jake!!! I'm always glad to see your reply to my posts. You've been a huge help, not just on this post, but several other issues I've had over the past years.

Take care.

Bad news Jake... washer stopped working again.

Put in a load last night, woke up this morning and it towels were sitting in water...load didn't finish, dial was still on the wash cycle.

Pushed the start button again, "On"light goes on...then door lock light goes on... then ~ 45 seconds later the "On" light goes off and machine stops. The door locked light is still illuminated though.

This seems so strange... after replacing the door wax motor the washwer worked for a few days, but now seems like we're back where we started from.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Ok Brian, then you will likely need the machine control board I posted a link to in post#2 of this thread.

Jake,
Replaced the main board...1st load finshed correctly, but 2nd load stopped in middle of 1st rinse cycle. "ON" light went off, the Door Lock light stayed illuminated, but washer just stopped. Manually advanced the timer knob to the next rinse cycle and washer started again and then completed the load. Same story on subsequent loads, as my wife says it is stopping every 5 minutes or so and then she has to push start button again & again to get it going again. Door light sometimes ON, sometimes OFF. She just told me the last load took over 2 hrs to finish.

I was hoping the board was the issue, but I'm doubting that now. Running out of parts to replace... timer next?

I appreciate all your advice.

Thanks.
Brian

Where is the reset button on Maytag Neptune washer?

Press power/cancel then start/pause Maytag washers do not have a reset button, but it is possible to reset them by pressing certain buttons in a particular combination. This is the simplest method to try: Press power/cancel first. Next, pick a fresh cycle to run.

How do I reset my Maytag stackable washer?

Lights Blinking on your Maytag Stacked Laundry Center To correct this situation, press and hold the Washer Start button for at least 10 seconds until all the display lights turn off. This resets the control, and the washer should operate normally.

How do I reset my Maytag Neptune washer?

The easiest way to reset a Maytag washer is to disconnect the power to the washing machine for three minutes. Disconnecting the power allows the electrical charge to dissipate from the washing machine, which allows it to reset. If the reset fails, unplug the washer again, this time leaving it unplugged for ten minutes.

How do you put a Maytag Neptune washer in diagnostic mode?

I checked the diagnostic code using the following procedure:.
Plug the washer in for power..
Put the washer into "Service Mode" by holding the "Delicates" and "Heavy soil" keys simultaneously for 3 or more seconds. ... .
Pushed "Presoak" to put it in diagnostic code mode..
