As indicated by the bridge, Jackson Dean’s “Don’t Come Lookin’” is a party song. But it is one built upon the theme of the vocalist venturing out onto the open road. As a premise, he is experiencing a plethora of stresses in his established, sedentary life. So now, Jackson has decided to jump in his car and basically go wherever the road and his heart leads him.
And as for those who may be concerned about his whereabouts, he instructs such individuals to not “come a looking” for him. This is basically a poetic way of saying that this spontaneous adventure he has partaken of is one that he will be on for an indefinite amount of time.
That said, it should be noted that the real-life Jackson Dean, despite being someone who obviously values his freedom, doesn’t appear to be anything akin to an actual nomad. Nor is he apparently someone who, as sorta implied in the first verse, is inclined to run away from his responsibilities. Rather the point being made here, according to his own explanation, is that we human beings should make a conscientious effort to retain our freer animal nature, if you will. And as he estimates it, part and parcel of that initiative would obviously be not allowing one’s self to get overly bogged down by the cares of the world – or, in the very least, taking a respite from it all every now and then.
Jackson Dean sheds Light on “Don’t Come Lookin’”
According to Dean, this song was inspired by a common phrase he used to say to his mother whenever he was heading out for an adventure into the woods. Before embarking on these adventures, he’d often tell his mother not to come looking for him in the event he didn’t come back home. His mother, on the other hand, would tell him to ensure that he stayed alive on his adventures regardless of what happened.
Who is Jackson Dean?
Jackson is a Big Machine signee from Nashville, via Maryland. It’s possible that you never heard of him prior to the dropping of “Don’t Come Lookin’”. This is due to the fact that prior to the release of this track, Jackson was a relatively unknown singer.
“Don’t Come Lookin’”
On 29 April 2021, this track was issued as a single and quickly became Dean’s first notable hit.
More specifically, this track topped Billboard’s Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart and also appeared on a couple of its country songs’ rankings.
Additionally, it made it onto an episode of the popular television series Yellowstone, as well as being featured on Liam Neeson’s 2021 full-length outing, The Ice Road.
This song originally came out as part of Jackson Dean’s eponymous debut EP. And subsequently it was also featured on his first studio album, 2022’s “Greenbroke”.
Jackson wrote this piece alongside Luke Dick, who is also apparently the song’s producer.
One, two, a-three, a-three
Got a head full of noise
‘Bout a hundred different things I’m tryna avoid
I got a mind in the gutter
Got trouble on one hand and beer in another
Got the windows down and the
finger’s crossed
Just looking for a brand-new way to get lost
Someone for is somethin’
Got a tank full of gas, down the road, I’m burning
Can’t say I would and I can’t say I wouldn’t
And if I don’t come back, don’t come lookin’
Feels good, ’bout time
Blue sky’s ahead and beat this behind
Got the wind in my hair
Got nowhere to go so I’m already there
And baby boy, maybe the rocket
Maybe the Great Soft Plains, or the hills of Kentucky
Maybe North or maybe
South
I don’t care as long as it’s now
Someone for is somethin’
Got a tank full of gas, down the road, I’m burning
Can’t say I would, and I can’t say I wouldn’t
And if I don’t come back, don’t come a-lookin’
Come on-on-on-on, if you wanna get down tonight
Come on-on-on-on, if you lookin’ for a real good time
Come on-on-on-on, if you kinda wanna lose your mind
Someone for is somethin’
Got a tank full of gas, down the road, I’m burning
Can’t say I would,
and I can’t say I wouldn’t
And if I don’t come back, don’t come lookin’
Someone for is somethin’
Got a tank full of gas, down the road, I’m burning
Can’t say I would, and I can’t say I wouldn’t
And if I don’t come back, don’t come lookin’
