How to receive money on PayPal

If you have a PayPal account and know your email address, you already know how to receive money on PayPal. All you need to do is give someone your email address, and they can send you money through PayPal. In fact, you don’t even need a PayPal account for someone to send you money. You will need to create an account to claim it, but as long as the sender correctly inputs your email address as the recipient, the funds will be waiting for you.

Once the sender has your email account, all he has to do is sign into his PayPal account, click on the three-dot menu button next to the PayPal balance and then select Send or request money. The user can then select the Send tab and enter your email address. He can then input how much money he wants to send you, and click Continue. The sender will be asked what kind of transaction this is. Follow instructions to finish the transaction.

PayPal has plenty of small fees involved, but they are very lenient on basic transactions between common users. If the sender sends the money using the PayPal balance or a linked bank account, using the friends and family transaction type, there is no fee involved. The only issue is that there is no customer protection when using friends and family, which makes it a bad choice when paying for goods and services.

PayPal also waives fees on AmexSend accounts. There is, however, a 2.9% fee for using a card and a fixed fee that will vary depending on the currency used ($0.30 if using USD).

If the money comes from a linked bank account, it can take two to three business days to clear the bank. As a result, it may not be faster to receive money on PayPal than via standard bank transfer in some situations.

PayPal has some transaction limits. These vary by market, but we’ll focus on USA policies. People without a PayPal account can send as much as $4,000. If you have a verified PayPal account, you can send as much as $10,000 per transaction, but there is no total limit.

You can cancel PayPal money transfers, but only under particular circumstances: if the recipient has no account or the account isn’t verified. Otherwise, completed transactions will require a refund or dispute.

PayPal transfers using the PayPal balance or debit/credit card are almost instantaneous. If using a bank account, transfers can take about two to three days.
