How much butter and marshmallows for rice krispie treats

"This is the recipe for the original rice krispies treats squares...It never fails! Plus, it is a great way to use up a box of cereal! For best results, use fresh marshmallows. I have replaced the butter once with Mott's Healthy Baking butter or oil substitute (it was basically an unsweetened apple sauce) and they still turned out great!"

Yum yum!! Delicious, classic recipe! I switched it up a bit and threw in a teaspoon of vanilla and a drop or two of almond extract and a tiny bit of maple flavoring - delicious!!

Thanks for posting this great recipe. I also bought Rrice Krispies with no recipe on the box. You'd think I'd remember how after making this tons of times in the past 60 years, but, of course, I didn't. Anyway - yummy and as usual I had to eat the first one while it was still gooey and falling apart. They set up if you can wait awhile. Great for kids and not so young kids.

This is not the original recipe! Pure vanilla extract was on the original recipe. In addition the proportions have been changed; more butter was called for in the original.
Margarine was invented after the original recipe. If possible find Rice Krispies that do NOT have corn syrup as the sweetener (easier to find) and marshmallows without, too ( hard to find). The combination of both items with corn syrup makes the squares too sweet, as compared to the original squares.

Jerry K. Age 67.

I had forgotten how much of a pain in the arse Rice Krispie treats really are. Haha. Plus, my marshmallows were ancient, so they didn't melt well. (Read the description, chefs!) However, I am pretty sure this is the original recipe, and the kids say they taste fine. I thought the recipe I used to make had vanilla in it, but it was Betty Crocker rather than back-of-the-box. So despite the rice krispies all over the kitchen and the sticky pan, thank you for posting.

What happens if you put too much butter in Rice Krispie Treats?

The perfect Rice Krispie Treat requires the perfect ratio of butter to marshmallow to rice cereal. Too much marshmallow and butter can make a super sticky, wet or soggy slice, while too little makes a hard, dry or crumbly one.

What is the marshmallow to cereal ratio?

Nobody knows the exact ratio of marshmallow to cereal, but at a glance it's about 1:6 (that's 1 marshmallow charm for 6 pieces of cereal). The ratio of marshmallows in Lucky Charms also probably varies from box to box – I've gotten some boxes of Lucky Charms that seems to have more marshmallows than ususal.

Why are my Rice Krispie Treats hard?

Don't crank the heat on the stovetop too high. High heat is the prime culprit for rock hard rice krispie treats. → Follow this tip: It will take a few more minutes of cook time, but melt the butter and marshmallows over low heat. You'll be rewarded with delicious, soft and chewy treats!

How do you make Rice Krispies gooey?

TIP 1: It should be no secret that the obvious key to ooey gooey rice krispie treats is to add more mini marshmallows! There's a fair amount that gets melted down initially, but I like to add an additional two cups right at the very end before pressing into the pan to set.
