Is it hard to get hired at Wells Fargo?

Wells Fargo jobs are competitive positions that sometimes require further education and experience. After submitting their Wells Fargo application, candidates go through multiple rounds of interviews before receiving a formal job offer from the company.

The Interview Process

From beginning to end, the Wells Fargo hiring process can take several weeks to a month to complete. Applicants generally cite lengthy waiting periods between submitting hiring materials and attending job interviews due to high competition from other candidates.

Wells Fargo uses a mix of phone interviews, group interviews, panel interviews, and one-on-one interviews to select candidates. Some locations may only perform one in-person interview, while others can require multiple. Hopefuls need to make a good impression during each step of the process to ensure they have the best chance of landing the job.

Phone Interview

The first round in the interview process often includes a question-and-answer session via telephone. During this time, hiring managers speak with candidates to determine if they meet the basic qualifications for the job. Once complete, the applicant moves on to in-person interviews with a member of the hiring team.

Face-to-Face Interview

The next phase in the hiring process is face-to-face interviews with a manager. Here, the applicant answers more in-depth questions regarding their work experience, education, and personality. If the manager believes a Wells Fargo hopeful is a good fit for the position, they approve them for group interviews.

Group Interview

During a group interview at Wells Fargo, a team of managers typically asks questions such as how well you handle money, how comfortable you are doing paperwork, and if you have any experience upselling services to customers. After this initial group interview, candidates may need to return for a follow-up interview before receiving a job offer.

Interview Questions

Common Wells Fargo interview questions span a variety of topics such as employment history, related job skills, education, professional motivations, personality traits, work ethics, and availability. Examples of some questions interviewees encounter include:

  • "Can you tell me about a significant personal accomplishment and how it might relate to Wells Fargo?"
  • "Can you describe a time you went above and beyond expectations in a customer service setting?”
  • "What did you most like/dislike about your previous job?"
  • "How would you deal with an angry or confused customer?"
  • "Do you have any questions for me?"

Many Wells Fargo job interview questions revolve around customer interactions, especially for entry-level positions like teller and customer service representative. If possible, provide answers that directly relate to customer-oriented situations.

Emphasize Your Skills and Abilities

Standing out from other applicants is essential to receiving a job offer from Wells Fargo. One way to do this is by sharing examples of how you've used job-related skills and knowledge to succeed at work and in your personal life. Social and technical abilities are especially important for Wells Fargo jobs, so specifically highlight your competence in those areas.

Dress for Success

Wearing the right clothing also helps set a professional tone at Wells Fargo interviews. Professional and business-appropriate attire is standard when meeting with a manager. Underdressing may cost applicants hiring consideration, despite impeccable resumes and award-winning personalities.

Wells Fargo Sales Consultant Interview Video

Video Transcript

Interviewer: Please describe your job title and primary duties.
Wells Fargo Employee: At Wells Fargo – I worked for Wells Fargo Financial – I was a sales consultant. I sold auto equity loans and FHA refinanced mortgages and credit cards. So, I called people that had accounts with us and basically tried to refinance their home or auto or help pay off debt.

Interviewer: What was the work environment like?
Wells Fargo Employee: It was pretty laidback. There were only five of us in the office, because there were different office locations. Every morning, we had a set… you had to call a certain amount of people from about 9 to noon and then you had your break. Then, hopefully you had appointments in the afternoon, so you worked on actually selling to the customers as opposed to calling them.

Interviewer: What was your favorite part about working there?
Wells Fargo Employee: I would say my favorite part was actually being able to refinance somebody’s house and get them a lower rate and put money back in their pocket. That was huge, because people were really excited about being able to save a couple hundred bucks a month.

Interviewer: How would you describe the application and interview process?
Wells Fargo Employee: Well, I applied online and then I had three interviews. Actually, they did it all on one day, which was kind of nice. I met with the store manager and then the district manager and then the D.O., the director of operations, which was nice because they did do it all in one day. Then, I was hired within a couple weeks after I did a background check.

Interviewer: What questions did the interviewer ask during the job interview?
Wells Fargo Employee: They were very interested in what I did for extracurricular activities, like hobbies. They obviously asked me questions about my marketing degree and if I was interested in sales, because that is what the job was – all sales pretty much. I was fortunate that I had a finance background, too, so I understood sales and finance. Basically, they wanted to know the kind of person I was and how I got through life other than work.

Interviewer: What set you apart from other candidates?
Wells Fargo Employee: I would honestly say having the finance background helped, because I knew and understood mortgages and auto equity lines and credit cards and interest rates and all that. So, I wasn’t just a salesperson that they had to train to understand the finance aspect of things, so I think that set me apart.

Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
Wells Fargo Employee: This is simple, but dress business-professional, but they look at suit and tie for me and definitely a suit for women during interviews. That’s very important because you do meet with customers. I would say definitely an education. It’s great to have a degree. They probably won’t hire without some sort of bachelor’s degree, at least. And be a hard worker and show that you have worked… They liked that I worked and went to college at the same time. I wasn’t just a college student. So, that was definitely a huge aspect of it.
