Can you return a walmart online order to the store

How long do I have to make up my mind?

Depending on the product, anywhere from 15 to 90 day for items bought in-store or at Walmart.com. For online items, the return window begins on the date of delivery. Marketplace items (sold by third party sellers on Walmart.com) have their own return policies (see below).

Do I have more time at the holidays?

Products with a 90-day return window do not get an extension, since Walmart claims that 90 days is plenty of time.  Products with a 15- or 30-day return window that were purchased between October 28th and December 25, however, do get an extension. For these items, the clock doesn’t begin ticking until December 26th. Keep in mind that Walmart specifies that only “unwanted gifts” can take advantage of the extension. In other words, you’ll have a difficult time returning pantry items or office supplies—things that aren’t normally purchased as gifts.

What condition do items need to be in?

Items must be returned in new condition, in the manufacturer’s original packaging.

Can I return a gift? Yes, but only in stores. Bring the packing slip or gift receipt in order to get a refund. If you don’t have one, the customer service associate will find the order online by asking you for the email address of the person who gave you the gift.  

What if I don’t have a receipt?

According to Walmart’s website, many items can be returned without a receipt for an exchange (exceptions are electronics, outdoor tools, entertainment items, computers, cameras, GPS unites and other electronic items). For items under $25, you can opt for a cash refund. Items over $25 receive a store shopping card for the amount of the item.

Can I return online purchases in store?  

Walmart.com items can be returned in store or via mail. In your account, locate your order in ‘Track Orders,’ select ‘View Details’ and click ‘Start a Return’ to print a free return label. Once Walmart.com has received the item and processed the return, you’ll get a refund to your account, or a replacement.

Or you can return the items in the store, where you don’t need the receipt, since the customer service representative can look up the order.

Avoid the line with the Walmart app!

For even faster returns, download the Walmart app to help process your own return, and skip to the “express” line. To make a return, click the “services” tab, scan your receipt or select “start a return.” Then select the item and follow the prompts on the screen. At the customer service desk, click “Scan” on the home screen and scan the QR code of the item you’re returning, give it to the customer service associate, and will get an instant refund.  

How do I return items from Walmart’s marketplace?

Walmart is bringing on more and more third-party sellers with more transparent and simplified returns.

What’s the return policy?  

Sellers’ return policies differ from Walmart’s (for example, they may charge a restocking fee of up to 20%), but most items have at least a 30-day return window, with the following exceptions (a smaller window):

Computers, computer/video game hardware, printers (excluding 3D printers) camcorders and digital cameras, GPS units, digital music players, tablets, e-readers, portable video players, pre-paid cell phones, post-paid cell phones, drones

Do I have more time at the holidays? Marketplace items are not eligible for Walmart’s extended holiday return policy.  You’ll need to check the seller’s listing directly to see if they extend their return window at the holidays.

How do I know if my item was sold on the marketplace?  On the shipping label, the return address under “Sold & Shipped by” is the seller’s contact information.

How do I initiate a marketplace return?

Online: Log into your account, go to your purchase history, find the order with the item you want to return. Select “return or replace.” Follow the prompts to select the item you wish to return, and the system will ask you to describe your return reason to the seller, who will contact you to provide your return information.

Get Help: If you need help locating the order, contact Walmart Customer Care for assistance. They can also help to generate a shipping label.

In store: You can also pack the package up for shipping and bring it to the customer service desk at Walmart. They will provide the shipping label for you, but you will have to pay the shipping fees.

When will I get my refund?

Once the seller processes your return, you should receive it within 48 hours. If you dropped it your return off at a store to be shipped, expect it within two weeks.

Need to find the return policy, or speak to the seller?

Questions and problems with marketplace items need to be resolved with the seller directly. While Walmart protects the privacy of buyers and sellers, you can get the information you need by signing on to your account, locating the order, and selecting See Details (next to the Order # and Date). The order details include the return policy and a Contact Seller link, through which you and the seller can communicate.
