Ballet folklorico classes for adults near me

From basic steps to flowing dresses, Folklorico dance is inspired by time honored traditions of Mexican heritage. The Parks and Recreation Department offers a variety of classes at various levels. All classes except introductory levels will need teacher approval.

Instructor will group similar age and level students together after assessment the first week of classes. It is common for intro to remain at intro level for several years as they acquire skills for advancement. Teacher assessment will advance students when necessary on a case-by-case basis. Program fee is non-refundable and no fees are prorated. All classes are subject to change or cancellation depending on the number of participants enrolled. Some classes do not participate in annual recitals. Please check with instructor.  New class curriculum for recitals begins in October. Recital participation is not mandatory. No classes on City Holidays.

Relámpago del Cielo means “Lightning from the Sky” in Spanish. During each performance, dancers “bring the thunder” to audiences with intricate steps, radiant smiles and brilliant colors that transport everyone to traditions of the folkloric dance of Mexico.

What are the 3 styles of folklórico?

There are three types of Ballet Folklorico: Danza, Mestizo, and Bailes Regionales (Regional dances).

Is folklórico Mexican or Spanish?

This is folklórico, a dance style with as much complexity, variety, and history as the country of Mexico itself. Folklórico actually refers to many traditional dances from Mexico's different regions and states, rather than one single style, and you could fill multiple books with the details of every dance.

What are the baile folklorico dresses called?

The men wore the big sombreros and the traditional Spanish charro suit with the silver studs on the pants and a big bow. The women folklorico wear is a ranchero design dress with unmistakable Indian influenced bright colored ribbons.
