Welcome to the forum. The TCM is an integral component of the PCM. If the problem can't be fixed, the whole unit (PCM/TCM) must be replaced. This unit is located in the front passnger inner fender by the firewall. It has 4 large plugs on it.

So the TCM/PCM/ECM are all the same box located on the firewall under the hood by the fuse box? Thanks.

Correct. A high end diagnostic scanner should be able to check the PCM/TCM and verify it is functioning properly. Also, the P0700 DTC is a generic code indicating there is some sort of problem with the transmission. These generally are issues with the transmission and rarely with the PCM/TCM. If there are any symptoms.....slipping/flaring on shifts, slow transition between Park, Drive, Reverse, slow response going into gear, etc., further troubleshooting would be needed. Have you checked the fluid level when the transmission is fully warmed up? When is the last time the transmission serviced......new fluid/filters?

hello, first post here as well. im not going to make a new thread just yet if i dont have to so ill bump this thread.im in upstate ny. My 05 grand cherokee laredo, v6 3.7 AWD automatic is acting as though the tranny is slipping and i pulled a p0700 code then scanned it with a transmission scanner and pulled p1637. I am leaning toward replacing the transmission control module at this point but i would like to hear from others with experience first if im on the right track.

the jeeps drivability is getting pretty bad now..it always shifts but acts like its skipping when you try to accelerate. at times it acts like it should stay in 2nd or 3rd gear longer but will shift to drive and lug down and start skipping and bucking until i floor it to have it shift down and get going. Before the light came on i thought it was the plugs or something because it almost acts as though its missfiring but i guess its in the tranny according to the codes that are coming up now.
thanks.

Where is the TCM located on a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

Where is the TCM module located?

The transmission control module can often be found below the cover at the back of the transmission case. It should be just below the engine control module's position. Sometimes it's found under the center console in the interior or even under the hood near the battery or inner fender panel.
