Sinds kort hebben wij de FreeStyle Libre 2 sensor in het assortiment. Met deze draagbare diabetes sensor kun je je bloedsuiker meten zonder vingerprik en de resultaten bekijken op de Freestyle Libre reader of je smartphone. De nieuwe FreeStyle Libre (FSL 2) heeft een aantal voordelen ten opzichte van de eerste versie. In dit blogartikel leggen we de 5 belangrijkste verschillen uit.
1: Instelbare glucose-alarmen
Bij de FSL 2 heb je de mogelijkheid om 3 verschillende realtime glucose-alarmen in te stellen. Er is een alarm voor een te lage bloedsuiker (hypo), een alarm voor een te hoge bloedsuiker (hyper) en daarnaast een alarm voor signaalverlies. Je krijgt dan een melding als de sensor langer dan 20 minuten geen verbinding meer heeft met de reader of app. Vooraf kun je instellen dat het alarm moet afgaan als je waarden boven of onder een bepaald niveau komen. De alarmfunctie is beschikbaar voor de FreeStyle LibreLink app voor smartphones en de reader (let wel op: de glucose-alarmen werken alleen bij de Libre 2 reader). De Libre 2 Sensor werkt in combinatie met de FreeStyle Libre 1 Reader, maar alleen als de software is bijgewerkt (klik hier voor meer informatie).
2: Nog nauwkeuriger en ook geschikt voor kinderen
De FreeStyle Libre 2 maakt gebruik van nieuwe sensoren die nóg nauwkeuriger je glucosewaarden in kaart brengen dan de voorganger, de FSL 1. In je vinger prikken is niet meer nodig voor een glucosemeting, want de sensor registreert je waarden automatisch iedere minuut en slaat de metingen 8 uur lang elk kwartier op.
Het FreeStyle Libre 2 flash glucose monitoring systeem is goedgekeurd voor kinderen en volwassenen van 4 jaar en ouder met diabetes. De oude Freestyle Libre was alleen geschikt vanaf 18 jaar.
3: Waarden aflezen met de FreeStyle Libre reader of smartphone
Bij de FSL2 kan je de resultaten op 2 manieren aflezen: met de FreeStyle LibreLink app of via de FreeStyle Libre reader. In de app heb je je glucosewaarden altijd bij de hand, of je nu thuis bent of onderweg. Ook biedt de applicatie handige opties, zoals kleurcodering voor verschillende scans, het toevoegen van commentaar op je bloedsuikerwaarden en instelbare herinneringen. In principe heb je de reader niet meer nodig voor een glucosemeting, want je kan de sensor gewoon scannen met je smartphone. Check voor de zekerheid wel even of jouw toestel geschikt en geüpdatet is voor het FreeStyle Libre-systeem.
Natuurlijk kun je ook gebruik maken van de reader ofwel scanner om je meetresultaten te bekijken. Zo zie je snel of je waarden zijn gestegen of gedaald. Je kan de FreeStyle Libre 2 sensor ook gebruiken als je nog de eerste generatie reader hebt, maar alleen als de software is bijgewerkt naar de juiste versie. Houd er wel even rekening mee dat de glucose-alarmen niet beschikbaar zijn op de oude reader.
4: Makkelijk resultaten delen
Door gebruik te maken van de FreeStyle LibreLinkUp app kun je je gegevens eenvoudig delen met familie, vrienden en zorgverleners. In deze gratis app kunnen zij je glucosewaarden inzien op hun telefoon en krijgen zij een waarschuwing bij een te hoge of lage bloedsuiker wanneer je de glucose-alarmen hebt ingesteld. De LibreLinkUp applicatie is vooral bedoeld voor gebruik door je naasten. Het is ook niet mogelijk om de sensor te scannen met deze app.
5: Geen alcoholdoekjes inbegrepen
De fabrikant van de FreeStyle Libre, Abbott, heeft sinds november 2020 de alcoholdoekjes verwijderd uit de verpakking van de sensor. In de handleiding staat nog wel vermeld dat ze erbij zitten, maar ze zijn niet meer inbegrepen. Om de FreeStyle Libre 2 sensor op de juiste manier aan te brengen op de achterkant van je bovenarm dien je zelf de alcoholdoekjes aan te schaffen.
Wat blijft hetzelfde bij de Libre 2?
Net als bij zijn voorganger hoef je bij de FSL 2 niet meer te prikken in de vinger voor een glucosemeting. Je meet je waarden met een pijnloze scan, waardoor het controleren van je bloedsuiker makkelijker en comfortabeler is. De sensor blijft tot 14 dagen op het lichaam zitten en is waterdicht. Je kan er dus mee zwemmen, douchen of sporten. Daarnaast heb je met zowel de Libre 1 als de Libre 2 een duidelijk overzicht van dalingen en stijgingen in je glucosewaarden.
