What does the bible say about protecting your marriage

Maintaining a strong and healthy marriage takes effort. It doesn’t happen magically. It happens through selflessness, intimacy, humility, love and prayer. None of these is easy. But why is that last one so hard to do? I can’t truthfully say that I consistently pray for my marriage. Yet, of all the disciplines that help make a marriage strong and healthy, prayer should be the easiest! After all, the Bible tells us this:

A strong, healthy marriage — both mine and yours — is certainly pleasing to the Lord, so we can be confident he hears us! This week, I’m choosing to pray over my marriage every single day. I’m re-committing to this prayer habit. His Word is the perfect place to start; there are many bible verses that we can apply to marriage. Join me, and let’s watch God pour out blessings on our marriages.

1. Always be humble, gentle, and patient, accepting each other in love.  You are joined together with peace through the Spirit, so make every effort to continue together in this way.  Ephesians 4:2-3, NCV
I pray this week and always that I will be exceptionally humble, gentle, patient and peace seeking towards my husband, regardless of what is distracting or stressing me.

2. Watch the way you talk. Let nothing foul or dirty come out of your mouth. Say only what helps, each word a gift. Ephesians 4:29, The Message
I pray that the words I speak to my husband will be encouraging, helpful and a blessing.

3. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate. Mark 10:9, NIV
I pray that until the day we join Him in heaven, that God will protect our marriage, our vows, our commitment to each other and our deep love for each other.

4. For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11, NIV
My prayer is that I would cling to this promise from God as a reminder of the wonderful things He has in store for our marriage.

5. Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.  It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.1 Corinthians 13:4-7, NIV
I pray that these words would characterize our marriage much more often than not. This verse encapsulates the unconditional love we desire in our marriage.

6. Come close to God, and God will come close to you… James 4:8, NLT
My prayer is that Tom and I would draw close to God each and every day because we will then experience more of HIM in our marriage. He will be evident in our lives.

 7. Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions. 1 John 3:8, NLT
I pray that my actions speak louder than my words when it comes to loving my husband.

Thanks for stopping by today! I’m praying we all have stronger marriages this week.
