What kind of therapy is best for borderline personality disorder?
Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT).
DBT includes group and individual therapy designed specifically to treat borderline personality disorder. DBT uses a skills-based approach to teach you how to manage your emotions, tolerate distress and improve relationships.
What do therapists do for BPD?
As well as listening and discussing important issues with you, the psychotherapist can suggest ways to resolve problems and, if necessary, help you change your attitudes and behaviour. Therapy for BPD aims to help people get a better sense of control over their thoughts and feelings.
Do people with BPD get therapy?
The treatment of choice for borderline personality disorder (BPD) is psychotherapy. Currently, four forms of psychotherapy have been found to be effective in treating those with BPD. Two of these treatments—mentalization-based therapy and transference-focused therapy—are viewed as psychodynamic in nature.
