With a sudden wealth of free time on all of our schedules right now as a result of the coronavirus pandemic and subsequent quarantine/shelter-in-place ordinances put in place in major cities around the world, the mind lends itself to wandering.

And late this week, that wandering led to an amusing video showing up online, riffing on the Now That’s What I Call Music! series of compilation albums of the past 25 years or so — but with a pandemic twist.

That’s right … here’s Now That’s What I Call Coronavirus, a mock-up of a 2-CD set featuring all the best social distancing/self-isolation songs for our current confusing times:

To recap, the songs featured in the clip are “Don’t Stand So Close to Me,” “Toxic” by Britney Spears, “Lonely” by Akon and Peggy Lee’s classic “Fever.”

Garbage, the alt/industrial band fronted by Shirley Manson that had more than a few ’90s singles on real Now That’s What I Call Music compilations over the years, shared the meme, clearly amused by the gag:

While you’re enjoying this fake album previewed above, be sure to visit the Center for Disease Control’s official guidelines for pertinent information regarding the coronavirus/COVID-19.

This period of uncertainty and global concern, it is important to maintain levity and humor to break up the tension — like Simon Pegg and Nick Frost of Shaun of the Dead did with their recent coronavirus and social distancing PSA, recreating an iconic scene from the beloved 2004 zombie horror/comedy:

And comedy legend Mel Brooks did with his son in a social media video that made the rounds as well:

And we can’t forget about this amusing send-up of the Beatles’ Abbey Road album cover — redesigned for social distancing, of course:
