The service has been impeccable. The hotel is well run and is immaculate. It's amazing that it's an older property and so quiet and clean. The river view is gorgeous.

When we saw the hotel on trivago, Expedia and other 3rd party sites we had questions about the Jr. Suite. So we went to the website and tried to contact the Hotel Ballast directly. Calling the number on the site would send you to a reservation line. With the reservation line I requested the phone number to the hotel. When I finally received the number they never answered the phone. Many attempts were made and no answer. We called back to the number listed on the website and again a reservation line they answered our questions the best they could; however it was incorrect. We were told that the rooms were separated by a door. It is not. There is a TV in each area and you can hear both when on. No privacy. The bathroom does not have a fan, so very humid when showering and just imagine when others in your group use the restroom? There is only a window in the living room area, no natural light source in the bedroom. Very dark without lamp on. Only one vent in the living room. None in bedroom so temperature varies in the small space. The room was clean and the beds were comfortable. The hotel has two side by side elevators. Only one was working. Speaking with another guest the elevator had been out for days. We stayed four days and it was out of service the whole time. The one elevator that was working had missing buttons and was dirty. It's an average sized elevator and could hold four comfortably and could have a little bit of distance. Unfortunately, because the elevator was in such demand normal wait time was 10 15 min and was packed with 6 7 people. So forget social distancing. Many times when the elevator finally stopped on your floor it was packed and you'd have to wait hoping you could get on the next or just take stairs. (9 floors at this hotel) They have a ground floor restaurant and bar, but only open Wednesday Sunday limited hours .. same with cafe' in the lobby. Wait time during breakfast hours was long only one worker in small cafe'. Ground floor restaurant in the morning only offers a breakfast buffet for $22.95 per person. Also, they do provide a parking lot but for $15/day. If lot is full you have to find parking on street. When we first arrived and saw our room we were very disappointed. It did not meet our needs and when we specifically expressed our concerns about the room the representatives of the hotel were not fully informed about the room. When we spoke to the manager she said we went through a 3rd party for booking. Unless you physically walk into the hotel you will always go through a 3rd party. We called their phone number on their website, not a 3rd party ie, Expedia, etc? they continued to say there was nothing they could do at the time, but they will work out something to compensate for the inconvenience when we check out. Well, check out time came and the manager was not there as she said she would be. And there were no notes for the other manager on duty to view or even know what we had complained about. The whole time it felt like we were taken advantage of by the cost of all the extra amenities and the miss communication of the room. Very dissatisfied. We have had much better rooms, service and included amenities in a three star rated hotel.

This hotel met my expectations in terms of cleanliness, comfort, and class, as well as staff helpfulness and demeanor. I have to point out a very sweet woman who worked at the joint coffee bar inside the hotel. I bought a salad there as soon as I arrived in Wilmington and I decided to bring it back because it didn't taste fresh. This woman not only exchanged this salad for a newer one, but also had the kitchen to make me one from scratch, free of charge. It meant a lot to me and earned extra points for the hotel in my book! Overall, the staff was very accommodating and welcoming and I'd come back here if staying in Wilmington again.

Line of 30 to check in so I left. Room was 58°and the thermostat wouldn't work. Called for help and it took 20 minutes for maintenance to arrive. Spoke to another guest in the elevator and his room and his colleagues four rooms are freezing. Hundreds of nights in Hilton hotels and have never see anything like this.
