It was a place i would have worked my entire career however they had other ideas for my career path and laid me off after 18 years. It was a great place to work while I was there.

Very friendly and allowed me to meet new people. It allowed me to learn more about the products that BCBSAL had to offer. It was difficult in terms of adjustment to the new workload but very doable.

So many incompetent management decisions have made the Claims area a very difficult place to work in. Advancement is all about who you know and/or having a degree, whether a person has the aptitude to do the job or not. The company says it likes to retain the best Associates, but knowledge and loyalty are very low on its list of priorities. The Claims area would actually benefit from a reduced workforce from entry-level positions through management, but upper management is in denial about it. The company is behind technologically, culturally and compensation-wise, as in, it hasn't figured out that there are other ways to reward employees than a meager check. Overall, this may be a good starting point for a young person seeking a career, but if they have aspirations of doing more, it's best to not get complacent there.

As a customer service rep, you are expected to know every aspect of health insurance. including but not limited to: benefits, coding, claims, pharmacy etc however the compensation is not equal to the amount of work expected and the volume of calls expected to take.

Great place to work, until ObamaCare. Company had a change in President @ 2008, this change brought early retirement, firings, and an overall sense of panic amongst its employees. Morale was extremely low and everyday was dreaded. Tremendous amount of stress, pressure and fear amongst its employees to prove themselves worthy EVERY day.
