The part came with everything listed in the description and was well packaged, with all of the sensor extensions wrapped and boxed individually.

Being that the OEM prices for my 2011 Jeep are silly, I figured I’d struck gold at 85$. (The OEM oil filter housing is the same as this one. Both made from plastic. That’s an argument for another day...why on earth would Chrysler put a plastic Oil filter/cooler on an aluminum motor...)

Anyway, I’d just left work and was on a rather busy road during rush hour when my oil light came on. Me, having faith, assumed the cold weather was messing with the sensor. I checked my oil pressure on my dash computer and saw that I had 0 oil pressure.

I pulled off when I could, realizing the echo of my heart in my chest was actually the sound of my motor’s cylinders sliding with scratchy friction. There wasn’t a drop of lubricant to save them.

I’d lost all of the oil in my car in under a minute.

The rear plug, the actual threading-fit for the oil sensor, had completely ripped out of the plastic housing.

This is a clear problem, not to mention extremely dangerous. The brass had actually been blown out of the unit... no bueno.

Since, I replaced the gaskets on my old unit and am currently using that through the winter. No leaks, either (so maybe my old unit just had a bad gasket and no cracks).

Anyway, I don’t want to fault this company for the defect because, as all of these other reviews seem to suggest, their products work pretty well. I must have just pulled a short straw.

If you buy this product, I’d suggest getting the protection plan so that YOU are not at fault if something happens. Luckily I was able to return it. My motor doesn’t seem to be in bad shape, either. If this product had destroyed my engine, this would be a different story.

How do I know if my Jeep oil cooler is bad?

Common signs include oil or coolant leaking from the oil cooler, oil getting in the cooling system, and coolant getting in the oil.

Why is my Jeep Grand Cherokee leaking oil?

Oil filter: The oil filter can leak oil if it has been damaged or has not been sealed properly. Oil drain plug: Another commonplace to develop a leak is the oil drain plug. Oil can leak here if the washer is not sealed properly. Also, if the oil plug was left loose or has been stripped, it can lead to an oil leak.

What does a jeep oil cooler do?

An engine oil cooler is a small device that looks much like a radiator, works much like a radiator, and is mounted near the radiator. Air passing over the oil cooler will lower the temperature of the engine oil, and allow the engine oil to remain much more effective.
